IDEAL FOR

Discerning travelers seeking an extraordinary experience

A bespoke 8 nights journey through Zion · Bryce Canyon · Amangiri · Lake Powell · Antelope Canyon · The Wave · Arches · Canyonlands · Moab — designed entirely around your preferences, pace, and vision of extraordinary. Every detail is curated by advisors who know this destination from the inside.

Utah Canyon Country is HauteBlack’s eight-night inquiry journey through the red-rock heart of the American Southwest: dawn hikes in Zion National Park, sunrise among the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, three nights at Amangiri near Lake Powell, a Navajo-guided walk through Antelope Canyon, a chance at The Wave, and Arches and Canyonlands from a ranch on the Colorado River outside Moab.

HauteBlack designs it as one journey with one advisor holding every flight, transfer, permit application, guide and table.

Why visit southern Utah? Utah’s five national parks, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands, sit within a few hours of each other, with Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon and The Wave just across the Arizona line.

Do you need permits? Angels Landing in Zion and The Wave in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument require permits issued by lottery; Antelope Canyon can only be visited with an authorized Navajo guide. Arches is not requiring timed-entry reservations in 2026.

When is the best time to go? March to May and September to November for comfortable hiking weather. Summer is very hot, and the July to September monsoon brings flash-flood risk in slot canyons.

How do you get there? St. George or Las Vegas for Zion, Page Municipal Airport for Amangiri and Lake Powell, and Canyonlands Regional Airport for Moab. Private flights between them can be arranged at hautejets.com.

Do I need a membership? No. Non-members are welcome. An advisor responds within 24 hours at /plan-my-journey (https://www.hauteblack.com/plan-my-journey).

Your Itinerary

Chapter 01

Chapter 01 — Why Utah Canyon Country

Why plan a luxury trip to southern Utah? Because nowhere else in the United States packs this much canyon, arch and red rock into a single week. Utah holds five national parks, often called the Mighty Five: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands. Just across the Arizona line sit Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon and The Wave. The difficulty is not finding beauty but sequencing it: long drives, permit lotteries, summer heat and crowded trailheads can turn a dream trip into a logistics exercise. Utah Canyon Country is HauteBlack’s eight-night inquiry journey that solves that, moving from Zion and Bryce to a desert sanctuary near Lake Powell and finally to Moab, with guides, permits and flights arranged before you land.

Chapter 02

Chapter 02 — Zion at First Light

What is the best way to see Zion National Park? Early, and on foot. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is closed to private cars for most of the year, generally early March to late November, when the park shuttle runs, so the canyon rewards travelers who start at dawn. The Narrows, where the Virgin River runs between walls hundreds of feet high, can be hiked from the bottom up from the Temple of Sinawava without a permit, wading upstream as far as you like, with river flow and flash-flood conditions checked first. Angels Landing, the famous chained ridge, requires a permit issued by seasonal or day-before lottery on Recreation.gov. We spend two nights near Springdale, at the park’s south entrance, so a private guide can time each hike around the light, the crowds and the river.

Chapter 03

Chapter 03 — Bryce Canyon and the Hoodoos

Is Bryce Canyon worth the detour? Yes. Bryce Canyon National Park holds the world’s largest concentration of hoodoos, the thin orange spires carved from the edge of a high plateau, with viewpoints reaching 9,115 feet at the southern end of the scenic drive. Sunrise from the rim of the main amphitheater is the classic moment; the better one is walking down among the hoodoos afterwards, when the rock still glows. Bryce is also an International Dark Sky Park, and the air is noticeably cooler than Zion’s canyon floor. We usually fold Bryce into the transfer day between Zion and Lake Powell, with a guide, lunch and the drive arranged, so it becomes a highlight rather than a long day in the car.

Chapter 04

Chapter 04 — Amangiri and the Lake Powell Desert

Where should you stay in Utah canyon country? For many travelers the answer is Amangiri, already featured in our guides to the best luxury resorts in the USA (/news/7-best-luxury-resorts-usa-for-a-remarkable-escape) and the best honeymoon resorts (/news/best-luxury-honeymoon-resorts-2026). Set on more than 900 acres in Canyon Point, Utah, its 34 modernist suites and Aman Spa sit in a protected valley about 25 minutes from Page Municipal Airport and roughly 15 minutes from the shores of Lake Powell. Its satellite, Camp Sarika, adds ten tented pavilions, each with a private plunge pool, for those who want a more elemental stay. Three nights here give time for slot-canyon walks, the resort’s guided hikes and simply watching the mesas change colour. Lake Powell boating depends on current water levels and ramp access, which your advisor confirms for your dates.

Chapter 05

Chapter 05 — Antelope Canyon and The Wave

Can you visit Antelope Canyon without a guide? No. Antelope Canyon lies within the Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park near Page, Arizona, and every visit to Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon requires an authorized Navajo guide. Upper Antelope Canyon is nearly flat and famous for midday light beams from spring to fall; Lower Antelope Canyon involves stairs and ladders. The Wave, the swirling sandstone of Coyote Buttes North in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, is harder still: the Bureau of Land Management allows a maximum of 64 people a day, awarded through an advance lottery four months ahead and a daily lottery two days ahead, applied for by mobile phone from within a geofence near the area. We enter the lotteries for you where possible and plan a superb alternative day so nothing hinges on luck.

Chapter 06

Chapter 06 — Moab, Arches and Canyonlands

How do you get from Lake Powell to Moab? By road it is a long day; a short private flight from Page to Canyonlands Regional Airport near Moab, which can be arranged at hautejets.com, turns it into a morning. For the final three nights we look to Sorrel River Ranch, featured in our guide to the best nature vacations in the USA (/news/best-nature-vacations-in-usa-luxury-escapes-2026), set on the Colorado River about 30 minutes from Arches National Park. Arches holds more than 2,000 documented natural stone arches; Delicate Arch at sunset is the walk everyone remembers. Arches is not requiring timed-entry reservations in 2026, though Fiery Furnace hikes still need a permit, so we go early or late to avoid peak parking. Canyonlands, carved by the Green and Colorado Rivers, brings Mesa Arch at sunrise and the view from Island in the Sky.

Chapter 07

Chapter 07 — Guides, Rivers and Nights Under the Stars

Is southern Utah good for families? Yes, for families who like to move. The journey is built around private guides who match terrain to the youngest or least confident member of the party: shorter rim walks and river wading for some, scrambles, canyoneering and longer slickrock days for others. Around Moab, a calm stretch of the Colorado River makes a gentle float or jet-boat morning, and Dead Horse Point State Park offers one of the great canyon overlooks in the West. Evenings are deliberately unhurried. Arches and Bryce are both International Dark Sky Parks, so a private stargazing session with a telescope is one of the most requested additions. Your advisor holds the pace, the water, the shade and the timing so each day ends with energy left.

Chapter 08

Chapter 08 — When to Go, and How HauteBlack Arranges It

When is the best time to visit Utah’s national parks? Spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November, bring the most comfortable hiking weather. Summer often pushes canyon floors well above 100°F, and the July to September monsoon can bring sudden storms and flash floods to slot canyons and narrows, which is why guides watch the forecast closely. Winter is quiet and beautiful, with snow possible on Bryce Canyon’s rim. Permits shape the calendar too: Angels Landing seasonal lotteries and The Wave’s advance lottery open months ahead. Your advisor holds every moving part: flights or a private aircraft (arranged at hautejets.com), transfers, park passes, permit applications, Navajo-guided tours, private guides and dinners. Comparing American journeys? See Jackson Hole Winter Week (/experiences/jackson-hole-winter-week), or for another great desert, Namibia Desert Drive (/experiences/namibia-desert-drive). Suites, guides and availability are confirmed for your dates before anything is booked. Start at /plan-my-journey (https://www.hauteblack.com/plan-my-journey); an advisor responds within 24 hours, and no membership is required.
