IDEAL FOR

Discerning travelers seeking an extraordinary experience

A bespoke 8 nights journey through Okavango Delta, Moremi & Chobe, Botswana — designed entirely around your preferences, pace, and vision of extraordinary. Every detail is curated by advisors who know this destination from the inside.

Botswana Okavango is Southern Africa at its most liquid and wild — the inland delta where floodwaters from Angola create channels, islands, and floodplains; mokoro mornings through papyrus; predator country in Moremi; and elephant herds gathering on the Chobe River.

HauteBlack designs this as an inquiry journey: a Maun gateway, several nights in the Delta or Moremi placed for water and wildlife in your month, and Chobe for riverine game. This is not a generic safari collage. It is one advisor shaping eight nights so flights, camps, and guides line up without guesswork.

Camps and bush flights are confirmed for your dates through relationships. No hotel names appear here until verified for your party. For Kenya's Great Migration, see /experiences/kenya-migration-season; for the Cape and Sabi Sands, see /experiences/cape-town-winelands-safari; for the Namib desert, see /experiences/namibia-desert-drive. What is the Okavango Delta? It is a vast inland delta in northern Botswana where the Okavango River spreads across the Kalahari, creating seasonal wetlands famous for mokoro travel and wildlife.

When is the best time to visit the Okavango? Typically May to October for dry-season game and peak flood water activities, with exact flood timing varying by year; November to April is greener, quieter, and strong for birds.

How many nights do you need? Eight nights allows Maun logistics, several Delta or Moremi nights, and Chobe without rushing bush flights.

Do I need a membership? No. Non-members are welcome. An advisor responds within 24 hours.

Chapter 01

Chapter 01 — Why Botswana Okavango

What is a Botswana Okavango safari? The Okavango Delta is one of the world's largest inland deltas: the Okavango River fans out across the Kalahari sands of northern Botswana, creating a seasonal mosaic of channels, lagoons, islands, and floodplains. When the flood arrives — water that fell as rain in the Angolan highlands months earlier — much of the Delta becomes navigable by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) and shallow boat, while game concentrates on the higher ground. HauteBlack designs Botswana Okavango as an eight-night inquiry journey: Maun as the gateway, several nights deep in the Delta or Moremi, and time on the Chobe River for elephant herds and riverboat game viewing, with one advisor accountable for every flight, transfer, camp, and guide. Camps are confirmed for your dates through relationships — never assumed from a listing.

Chapter 02

Chapter 02 — Arrival in Maun

Maun Airport (MUB) is the gateway to the Okavango, with connections from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and other regional hubs; inquire about Haute Jets for private arrivals into Maun or a charter straight to camp. Most travelers land and transfer almost immediately to a light-aircraft flight into the Delta — soft bags and strict weight limits apply, typically around 20 kg in soft-sided luggage plus a small day bag. If the party needs a gentler start after a long international route, your advisor can hold one night near Maun before the bush flights begin. From the air, the Delta unfolds as a green and silver puzzle of water and islands; the landing strips are short, and the camp vehicle is usually waiting at the side of the runway.

Chapter 03

Chapter 03 — The Okavango Delta by Water & Land

The Okavango rewards both water and land. In high-water months, mokoro poling through papyrus and reed channels is the signature: you sit low, the silence broken only by birds and the occasional hippo, and guides read the channels the way others read roads. Motorboats open the larger lagoons. On the islands and in lower-water seasons, open vehicles cover the floodplains and woodland for lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, and the rich birdlife that draws serious watchers. Your advisor places you in a concession that matches the month — some camps sit in permanent water, others on the edge of the flood — so the activities available for your dates are the ones you actually want.

Chapter 04

Chapter 04 — Moremi & Predator Country

Moremi Game Reserve protects a large part of the eastern Okavango and is known for predator density: lion prides, leopard, and packs of endangered African wild dog that hunt in daylight. Chief's Island, in the heart of the Delta, is among the most sought-after private concessions. Camps here are few, vehicles are limited, and off-road and night-drive rules vary by concession. For travelers who want classic big-game drama without convoy traffic, a Moremi or private-concession stay is usually the core of the journey. Your advisor matches the camp to ages in the party, walking-safari interest, and whether you prefer classic canvas, contemporary design, or a family unit with connecting rooms.

Chapter 05

Chapter 05 — Chobe River & Elephants

Northeast of the Delta, Chobe National Park holds one of Africa's densest elephant populations, especially along the Chobe River in the dry season when herds come down to drink and bathe. Riverboat safaris put you at eye level with elephants, hippos, and crocodiles; game drives inland cover the floodplain and mopane woodland. Many itineraries place two or three Chobe nights after the Delta for a change of pace and landscape. Kasane is the gateway town, with easy logistics toward Victoria Falls if you want a waterfall add-on — your advisor will say whether that extension fits your dates without rushing the Delta nights.

Chapter 06

Chapter 06 — Private Camps & Light Aircraft

Why fly between camps in Botswana? Distances are large, roads are rough or nonexistent in the Delta, and light aircraft are how exclusive camps stay exclusive. Flights are short, scenic, and tightly scheduled; luggage limits are real. Most camps are all-inclusive for meals, house drinks, and scheduled activities, with private guides and vehicles available on request for photography or families. Your advisor confirms every sector for your dates, builds in buffer time for weather delays, and never invents availability from a brochure. Peak dry-season camps book many months ahead.

Chapter 07

Chapter 07 — When to Go

When is the best time for a Botswana Okavango safari? The dry winter months, roughly May through October, bring lower water in many channels later in the season, excellent game viewing as animals concentrate near permanent water, and cooler mornings — this is peak season and peak demand. The flood from Angola typically peaks in the Delta around June to August, so mid-year often offers the best mix of water activities and wildlife. The green season, roughly November to April, brings rains, lush landscapes, fewer vehicles, dramatic skies, and strong birding, with some camps closing or running reduced operations. Your advisor will be honest about what your dates can deliver: flood levels shift year to year, and mokoro access depends on water, not a fixed calendar.
